Well perhaps we can help. DGSF has partnered up with another local organisation called Independent Living Support to offer personal advice about energy matters. ILS have been offering this service to under 60s for some time and now, with our help, they are extending the service to the over 60’s.

So if you have any queries or concerns about heating your home, or checking your tariff to make sure you are getting the best deal,  then ILS may be able to help. They are not miracle workers but they will do their best.

Cheaper gas and electricity

As you probably know, the power companies have many different tariffs for both gas and electricity. We can help anyone over sixty to check if they are getting the best deal.

The major power companies also have what is called a ‘social tariff’, although they all have different names for it. This tariff is especially for those on a low income and to qualify customers must be receiving Pension Credit or some other qualifying benefit. Although the price of these tariffs moves up and down their advantage is that they are always guaranteed to be at least as cheap as that company’s cheapest deal and you don’t have to sign up to pay by Direct Debit or manage the account on the internet.

Home insulation and heating grants

This mainly applies to home owners and people in private lets  We offer assistance in applying to the Energy Saving Trust for the various forms of help under their scheme. This can often result in free or reduced price insulation, and for anyone over 75 sometimes even free central heating.
